If you can find a serial number, (either at the top of a joint or near the
right-hand thumb support) there's a list available on internet,
http://drrick.com/buesc.html which will allow you to date it. It's possible
that it's high pitch, which won't spoil the fun. Here metal clarinets were
associated with Pasedena roof orchestra and 20s style. Ever hear of a group
called the Temperance Seven?
