While you don't say so explicitly, I believe you are tell us that the
instrument is a metal bass clarinet.

For your information, the principle clarinet player in the Boston Symphony
in the 1920s played a metal clarinet. I began to play clarinet in the early
1940s on a metal Buescher. There is nothing wrong with a metal clarinet. I
know that everyone says wood, but metal can be made into a fine instrument.
Clarinets can be made of bamboo, and even a carrot, though the intonation of
the latter might need some work.

Take the instrument to a good repair person and ask his opinion about what
might be needed.

BUT DON'T START ACTING AS IF A METAL INSTRUMENT IS BENEATH YOUR DIGNITY. IF
YOU DON'T WANT IT, I'LL BUY IT FROM YOU SIGHT UNSEEN. THAT IS HOW MUCH
FAITH I HAVE IN BUESCHER METAL CLARINETS.
