I assume we've all seen the definition of "clarionet" from Ambrose
Bierce's 1911 "The Devil's Dictionary":

Clarionet (noun): An instrument of torture operated by a person with
cotton in his ears. There are two instruments that are worse than a
clarionet -- two clarionets.
