Quintet of the Americas in Performance at Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater =

New York, NY =96 Quintet of the Americas woodwind ensemble will perform =

Judah Adashi=92s Songs and Dances of Macondo on Wednesday, May 11th - =

7:30PM at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater at Symphony Space, 2537 =

Broadway in Manhattan

The Quintet will perform, accompanied by a reading by Sonia Manzano, as =

part of the Thalia Book Club=92s Literary Celebration of Nobel =

Prize-winning Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez' One Hundred Years =

of Solitude. A panel of writers, including Oscar Hijuelos (Pulitzer =

Prize winner for The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love) and Esmeralda =

Santiago (When I Was Puerto Rican) will discuss Marquez' masterpiece. =

The composer will speak before the performance of his work.

The fictional town of Macondo is the setting of One Hundred Years of =

Solitude. Judah Adashi=92s Songs and Dances of Macondo suite for woodwind =

quintet (here imagined as a band of street musicians) was conceived as a =

songbook, inspired by musical elements and episodes in the novel.

This is presented as part of Symphony Space=92s Sonidos Festival. Tickets =

Members of Quintet of the Americas are Sato Moughalian, flute, Matt =

Sullivan, oboe, Nicholas Gallas, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and =

Maureen Strenge, bassoon. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the =

Quintet has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to =

audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. =

The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to =

concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe. They are =

currently in residence in The Department of Music and Performing Arts in =
