I got a bonus from work this summer. I could have all of it invested in my
children's education, but instead trotted off to eBay and acquired a
Marigaux clarinet. Couldn't resist.

This is a clarinet that could only be built by a company of oboe makers.
Oddly shaped keys with rollers in well-engineered places, terrific
craftsmanship, extra regulation screws etc. The "RS Symphonie" is an
interesting instrument indeed. A pity they don't make them any more.

It's a different blow than what I'm used to. Today for fun, pulled it out
to practice Hindemith Metamorphoses (where the roller Eb/C could be of some
use), put a Tom Ridenouer barrel on it. Pretty darn OK.

A shout-out to Paul Woltz, my bassoon-buddy in the orchestra, a fantastic
bass saxophonist and a great repair tech here in Seattle. He put a full set
of Valentinos on the horn, tweaked it up perfect. (Plus, if it's a bit out
of tune, I can always turn to the left and blame him for it!)
