Quintet of the Americas Immigrant Heritage Week Concert on April 16 at =

Flushing Library in Flushing, Queens

New York, NY =96 Quintet of the Americas woodwind ensemble will present a =

special Immigrant Heritage Week concert on Saturday, April 16 =96 2:00 PM =

at Flushing Library, 41-17 Main Street in Flushing, Queens. This event =

is presented as part of New York City=92s Immigrant Heritage Week celebrati=
on.

Repertoire for this concert includes music by composers influenced by =

the music of immigrants to the U.S. and music by composers who have =

moved here. Selections will include the New York premieres of Yao Chen's =

Sfumato and James Cohn=92s Polka Orientale. Other works to be performed =

are Jose Bernardo=92s Echos from a Distant Land, Judah Adashi=92s Songs and =

Dances of Macondo, Kenji Bunch's Shout Chorus, two pieces from Colombia, =

the country where the Quintet was born, Mananita by Jorge Olaya Mu=F1oz =

and El Picaflor by Jose Barros.

Yao Chen, a native of China, will be coming from Chicago to attend the =

Cohn is a resident of Douglaston, Queens. Jose Raul Bernardo is =

originally from Cuba and wrote this work for the Quintet. Judah Adashi=92s =

Macondo piece is based on the Nobel Prize-winning Colombian author =

Gabriel Garcia Marquez' novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude. More about =

Members of Quintet of the Americas are Sato Moughalian, flute, Matt =

Sullivan, oboe, Nicholas Gallas, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and =

Maureen Strenge, bassoon. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the =

Quintet has specialized in bringing music new music from the Western =

hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New =

York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has =

taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, and =

Eastern Europe. They are currently in residence in The Department of =

Music and Performing Arts in The Steinhardt School at New York =
