I can understand. I play a 4 Forestone so I ordered a 4 L=E8g=E9re and fo=

If you are considering experimenting with the new Forestone synthetic
reeds from Japan, please allow me to give you a caution.

I ordinarily play 3.5 to 4 in Mitchell Lurie Premium, or 3 to 3.5 in
Gonzalez, or a 3.25 in L=E8g=E9re. Based on that, I ordered a 3 and a 3.5
from Forestone. Well, their numbering scale is quite a bit different
from my expectations. The 3.5 is too soft, and the 3 is WAY too soft. =

I'd guess their numbers were from 0.5 to 1.0 higher than reality.

Their web site tries to wave this off by saying "well, our numbers are
not really about strength", but that's just marketing nonsense. Of
course they are. There is -- and ought to be -- a direct comparison
with cane reeds.

This is an expensive lesson, since the reeds are $25 each, and there
doesn't appear to be a "satisfaction guaranteed" trade-in policy, like
Guy L=E8g=E9re has. Now, I'm not really unsatisfied; I am getting a good
tone out of the 3.5, but I'm working pretty hard to keep it under
control. I'm just hoping I my experience can help the next guy. Order
a higher number than you think.
