There are new works (chamber music and orchestral) to hear on Ed Marcus's
website:
www.sites.google.com/site/edwardmarcusmusic/works

I especially enjoy the work written for Indande, "Escapades" for flute,
oboe, clarinet, and piano, which is a very lighthearted work, and incredibly
fun to play. The samples are now all included on the streaming player, as
well as mp3 for download directly from the music list.

Regarding the recent (and past) threads on period instruments: Many of us
are confined to modern instruments through lack of time and/or finances.
When playing horn, my teacher had me learn the Mozart concerti without
valves for the sake of understanding the original technical and sound
difficulties, with the understanding that period instruments are a
specialty, and that most performances are on modern valved instruments, and
she was a natural horn specialist. I suggest that we be allowed to
appreciate the differences period instruments make without limiting the
performances of works of Mozart, Brahms, and their contemporaries to the
handful of lucky people who play period instruments.

Cheers,
Penny Ward Marcus
