I usually lurk but this is an interesting question. I am a recreational
clarinettist, once upon a time half-way-decent player with a bachelor's
degree in music history now a computer professor.

For me, I become overly distracted when I stand and play. I am too concerned
with my aching back, my hand position, my posture, am I moving too much, am
I shaking from nerves and therefore have a vibrato when I shouldn't, did I
turn so all of sudden I don't see the accompanist (fellow musicians) etc. I
MUCH prefer sitting while playing. I don't think I play with more enthusiasm
because of standing. I play with more enthusiasm when in a group because the
vibe or energy is infectious in a small ensemble or concert band. I am not
much one for playing solos. Even when I played every day for several hours
(a 100 years ago), I much preferred ensemble playing. It seemed so much more
fun! My 2 amateur cents...
