JJ Quantz book 'On Playing the Flute' is a good contemporary reference to
Baroque musical style and ornamentation, and is by no means confined to the
flute.

Hello everyone

Earlier in the year, I bought a C clarinet in the hopes of playing Baroque
oboe and flute works. Well, while I think timbre wise the C clarinet works
well with the oboe Albinoni, Vivaldi, Telemann et al Concertos, I am not
convinced on the Flauto traverse (violino) Sonatas. And I in no way a
Baroque specialist, I have noted a lot of ornamentation in the recordings I
am listening to which I am yet to grasp, though a reference source would be
most welcome?

In this case I am welcoming constructive criticism. I am aware MMO is hardly
a reliable source, this is me just having fun with MMO in my practice room,
but if there are ways for me to play the music more in the style it was
intended without having to learn the flute, recorder or oboe. I am not
saying these pieces would have been written for clarinet if it had been
around. I am not saying that at all. In fact I think not. But my getting a C
clarinet has opened up a path to play this beguiling music which most
clarinettists would miss out on.

Tuning problems with the C, but you can see through the video I am working
with a tuner to sort it out. To be honest, it is not so much tuning problems
as timbre issues. Certain notes sound stuffy and out of tune but are
perfectly in tune and the instrument is certainly responding better with my
new Backun fatboy on it. Thankyou Morrie J
