The original Bari reeds were smooth. The Bari Star had the grain-like
appearance. They still make Bari reeds but the original owner, Wolfe
Tannenbaum sold the company a few years ago. They are still listed in the
Woodwind Brasswind catolog. I don't know if they are the same quality. You
should try the Legere synthetic. They are the most popular synthetic now.
