Hello Kathleen,
This is to let you know that I second Jack Wiard=92s comment on your =
recent playing. I too enjoy seeing and hearing you play and am =
envious. We are aware that you are not Sabine Meyer, and if your =
playing is not pleasing to some people=92s ears, let that be their =
problem. When we want to hear world-class professional playing we have =
other possibilities. Your joy in playing (and playing well) tells us =
that we don=92t have to be celebrities to be personally enriched and to =
enrich others by doing the best we can. I say this not to diminish Dan =
Leeson=92s critique. It is surely a high-class act and no doubt you (and =
the rest of us) can profit greatly from taking it to heart. The =
problem is its apparent general tone of derogation and dismissiveness. =
I refuse to believe that he intended it to sound that way. We all know =
that the internet is notorious for the misunderstandings it creates. =
Undoubtedly Dan Leeson intended to be helpful, nothing more. Why don=92t =
we just leave it at that? Keep on posting. One of the great things =
about this discussion list is the way it accommodates the interests of =
both high-level professional players and those old =93has-beens who =
never were=94 like myself (retired academic, age 80 in June and still =
trying to coax some nice sounds out of my clarinet). Lets keep it that =
way. Vive la tolerance!
