I jsut wanted to comment on the content of Dan's message not really in relation to the conversation.

I just wanted to share this just becuase I want to.

Today when Dan mentioned the comment about (paraphrasing) if you arent making it up then you're jsut writing your own concerto it really struck me. I had been taking to heart all the things everyone has said about the mozart concerto over the months and trying to apply them. I have an audition coming up so I was sitting down working out the best ornamentations I could that I attempted to make historically accurate and to my liking. While I think I could get by playing it once like that... someone might be able to "see through" my cookie cutter concerto. It really made me realize how little I actually know the piece. Sure I've analyzed it, but I dont just know the chords right off the top of my head to be able to improvise nor do I know enough about mozartian style to come up with something that falls into that category every time. The audition is setup that i might have to play it twice which also made me think how wonderful it would be if they noticed I did something different the second time if I was truly improvising.

Unfortunately, my audition is very soon, I work full time, and still don't have stravinsky's 3 pieces down as well as I would like. Could someone direct me to a source to give me some good ideas on mozart style that is shorter than a book? and perhaps a few different reputable mozart youtube recordings? I know I can't whip this together the right way in 2 weeks but I can at least make it better than what it is.

thanks

Tom
