If it was made in Asia the rings were probably glued so a debonding solution
would work.

occasionally we use a small leather covered hammer or mallet to assist in
taking a ring off a wooden barrel. cover the main body. hot the ring with
slight, small glancing blows.

when a slight separation area is present, we use the thin edge of a dull
knife blade (we have several of these blades with handles machined off & cut
down & are used for pad installation - we got ours from John Butler). anyway
use the thin edge of the dull knife blade to slowly separate the ring.from
the barrel tenon receiver. careful not to harm the edges of the barrel.

good luck.

There's no reason for this to work, but consider it. Wrap the ring in an
electric retardant substance, ie cloth, tape or what else, heat it. The
expznsion should do it.

Subject: [kl] Removing barrel rings

>
Over the years, there has been a lot of discussion about tightening barrel
and bell rings - but I have seen nothing about getting them off. I have in
mind cutting down
one for playing at higher pitch - I have the tools for it - but will need
to remove one ring to do the work. (I am starting out with an old plastic
barrel, of course!)

Any thoughts on how to get the ring(s) off?

George
