Dick, I don't have a part from an identifiable publisher (although the only
part I think I've ever played from is the Kalmus part). But if I look at the
1st clarinet part in the OMCDRL collection or the copy that's available at
IMSLP (which I suspect is the same as the part you have), I see the
difference you mention. But looking at my own copy of a Kalmus score (which
I think was a reprint of the original Simrock edition) and also at the copy
IMSLP has, the clarinet articulations are identical to the flute, which not
only plays the passage _solo_ beginning in the 9th bar of 10, but also plays
it in octaves with the clarinet and the 1st bassoon 8 bars later. The
articulation I see in the part I'm looking at in the 21st bar of 10 is a
slur over dots and the articulation two bars later is a dot over only the
second of the two eighth-notes. These seem like such pointlessly fussy
articulations in context (and so easy to explain as engraving errors) that
I'd question them much sooner than I'd question the score.
Of slight interest (maybe to suggest that the parts are less reliable than
the score in this case) is the fact that in the bassoon part there is a cue
that begins in the 13th measure of 10 showing the flute solo - only the cue
is labeled "Oboi 1." :-)

Subject: [kl] Dvorak 9 query
It the first movement of Dvorak 9, in the 9th measure after
rehearsal 10, the flute has an 8 bar phrase with the two
staccato eighths at the beginning of the odd numbered
measures. The phrase is echoed in the next 8 measures by the
first clarinet but with a different articulation in measures
21 and 23. Anyone have suggested articulations and
justifications?
Dick WIlliams
