Buy two barrels. One for the Bb and another for the A.
1. you can buy a barrel of the correct length for intonation and compatibility (it's unlikely that one barrel would be
able to meet that goal)
2. you can adjust the interior dimensions of the barrel tenon space....and not mess with the clarinet tenon

And....if the barrel was "difficult" to get on....I would say you were forcing the issue.
