While I don't believe the wax will stop the crack from growing....it's a great short term solution. The wax will be
easily removed by a good repair tech and they'll be glad you didn't use glue or anything more permanent.
While the wax probably wasn't necessary since the crack didn't go through to the bore of the instrument....it's a nice
backup. Did the crack travel through any tone holes? That's where the wax would be particularly useful.
