I can top that! My brand new R-13 (that is my still my main horn
today) cost $188 in December of 1963 (I still have the receipt, and
"instruction book" that taught you how to assemble and care for
it!!) I got it at Silver and Horland in lower Manhattan New
York. My mom offered $150, but the store refused and we walked
out. She must have seen how disappointed I was because before we got
back to the car we went back and bought it. I was 17 years old.

You know, it actually came with a cardboard template that you were to
use to measure the bore length of your mouthpiece to make sure the
mouthpiece would make the horn play in tune!! Salesmanship or physics??
