Subj: [kl] Question about "Professional" clarinets
Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2011 17:04:12 -0500

I recently joined the Klarinet list, but I have played clarinet off and on,
mainly for my own pleasure, for over 50 years. Currently I am =93on=94 again
and, now that I am once again playing seriously, I am considering upgrading
to a professional instrument. I have played a Buffet E11 for a number of
years, but, since I have no pretensions as to my future in music, I am
reluctant to spend what would be needed for a professional-level Buffet or
LeBlanc. However, I recently saw Amato Model 616II Full Boehm System
clarinets on sale at Woodwind & Brasswind for $1,299 and an Allora Paris
AACL-913 for $1,099. These are advertised as =93professional=94 clarinets, =
but
the prices are such as to make one question the accuracy of that
description, although the Amati has received some glowing customer reviews.
I wonder if anyone has had any experience with these instruments and would
be able to verify that they are, indeed, professional instruments that they
are happy with them. (I realize that another option would be to upgrade my
E11 with a Backun Prot=E9g=E9 barrel and only spend about $100.) I would ve=
ry
much appreciate any advice and/or suggestions.

Thanks,

Steve Boardman
