Kathy,
I am glad you have decided to continue with your big and worthwhile
project.
I have been a follower of this list for many years and it is obvious
that there is a considerable number of contributors who share your
bipolar condition. Some of them enlighten me and others bore me. Like
most people, they use music from time to time as a consolation, even
as a crutch. Carried to extremes, this can have its dangers and in
all the words written to you recently this quotation from Michael
Whight stands out:-
"I practised so hard because I was feeding off the emotional
responses I could get from the music. It was not until many years
later I realised that this was damaging and stunted my own emotional
growth with human beings."
These words reminded me of the title of Bob Wilber's autobiography
(Wilber is an excellent clarinet player in both Jazz and Classical
music) "Music Was Not Enough". The book outlines how he came to a
similar realisation.
Best wishes with the project.
Arthur Acheson

Folks, once I have completed my little Mozart project, I will be
looking at Brahms and his clarinet works.
