Subj: [kl] Concert at the National Gallery of Art January 16
Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2011 08:19:21 -0500

For those of us who love the clarinet, Sunday's concert at the National
Gallery of Art was a real treat. David Niethamer was the clarinetist,
and the selections were the Milhaud Trio for Violin, Clarinet and Piano,
and L'Histoire du Soldat. Not only were the individuals top notch, but
the ensemble was seamless. I understand the concert was recorded, so
hopefully it will be available as a podcast here:

Not only did I get to enjoy some beautiful playing, my two children who
play clarinet accompanied me. My daughter, who had earlier said she
wanted to quit playing said, "I think I will keep playing clarinet!" My
son truly enjoyed the music, which, despite its modernity, is very
accessible to young listeners. We were practically onstage with the
musicians, so the kids had a great experience of the concert.

I hope they will have the recording up for podcasts soon. In the
meantime, check out some of the other podcasts - there are two woodwind
quintets featured this month which provide some superlative playing as
well as superb ensemble work.
