Subj: [kl] Mozart Concerto and quintet

Actually Dan, it is more the notes themselves, the same combination of notes in a different order with different harmonic structure providing quite different emotional effects. The comparison between the slow movements is obvious, but while the Concerto slow movement is one of intense sadness, the quintet to me speaks more of heaven with the rising demi semis almost a stairway. While I find the concerto to be an intense and at times brooding work, the quintet is a lot lighter and heaven like.

but that is just my emotional and theoretical take on the two works and that is what I meant by compring the two works, the notes and motifs themselves, though I won't go fully Schenker on it

Regards, kathy
