Subj: [kl] Brisbane Flood devastation

Hi Mark

I'm not sure how the Gabba fared, I know the power was cut, but Lang Park
and the XXXX brewery went well under! Some bright spark put a set of
goggles, snorkel and floaties on the statue of King Wally outside the
ground. Brisbane had plenty of warning, but the poor buggers up the Lockyer
Valley had no chance. An inland Tsunami hit Toowoomba and Grantham before
going down the valley, they are still pulling bodies out of the wreckage.

They were moving the pianos and such from the ground floor of the Con, I'll
bet the Con Theatre went under and the orchestral hall I imagine. We are
told not to make unessential travel, so I don't know how the Con went. Of
course, the whole arts precinct was built on the River, Ferry Road Studios
for QSO, Con, State Library Art Gallery, GOMA, College of Art, Piazza, and
the foundations for the new ABC studios to replace the ones in Toowong.

But being Queenslanders, you know we'll bounce back!

Regards, Kathy

Glad you're OK Kathy - it's very weird watching the devastation from the

other side of the planet. I imagine my old flat near the Gabba is largely

underwater...

Was there enough warning in Brisbane to move things out of harm's way? I

guess the lower floors of the Queensland Conservatorium are completely

flooded - I wonder how the library is?

Mark
