I've no references for this: indeed, the trouble often is that claims are
made and repeated by people who have never even handled the instrument(s) in
question. I think the bit about slide trumpet is in regard to Clegget, and
the presumption is that since the concerto is about ten years earlier than
Keyed instrument, it had perforce to be written for a slide. No more than
that.
