Subj: [kl] Numbness

I had an inverted wisdom tooth removed about 25 years ago. As with Rachael,
the tooth was attached to the lower jaw bone and had to be broken up to
remove. It's almost impossible to perform this kind of surgery without
bruising the mandibular nerve that runs along the lower jaw. The oral
surgeon said the numbness would last only a couple of weeks, but I still
have numbness, after 25 years. It's especially noticeable in cold weather,
like now. The numbness runs from the middle of the lower lip to the tip of
my nose. I learned to work around this problem in my playing, so it doesn't
really cause any problem. Hopefully, Rachael, your numbness will clear up
better than mine, but do expect some discomfort for a while. I couldn't play
for several weeks after the surgery.
