I haven't had anything close to what you describe, but I did have my last wisdom
tooth extracted Thursday (lower left side). Things got complicated and it took 3
people an hour and a half to drill and cut the tooth out (impacted, fused to my
jaw, all that good stuff; I can't imagine how much harder had the tooth had all
4 roots instead of only 3). For the first hour, the tooth wouldn't budge and my
dentist called in an oral surgeon to assist (plus the guy that was assisting
with suction and whatnot). At times I wondered if my jaw was going to be
dislocated or broken. I have a small mouth, so not a lot of room to work to get
out a tooth that won't let go (I guess I was extra-special attached to it).

All in all, things are going better than I thought they would. External swelling
continues to go down. There's only a small light red area on the outside of my
jaw (I was told that brusing may happen, so I got lucky). Internally, I'm still
real sore where all the cutting took place, but it's quite tolerable. The main
thing getting me right now is that my lower lip and chin are still numb, The
surgery was finished at 5:30 pm Thursday. It's now almost 10am Saturday, so I'm
going on over 40 1/2 hours with a numb lower lip. I won't be happy if that it
what prevents me from playing at rehearsal Wednesday (as opposed to
post-surgical pain).
