I'm not sure about that, as the version with bass clarinet is not the
1944 recording w/ Les Brown. The one with bass clarinet is reputedly a
radio version from 1952 which I have seen listed as the Van Alexander
orchestra, which is probably the one you're thinking of. Unfortunately,
I haven't found a list of musicians (and it might be hard to track down,
as Alexander did a number of recordings under his name with studio
musicians after his band folded). So I suppose it actually could have
been Abe Most.

She did two studio recordings of Sentimental Journey, in 1944 with Les
Brown (her first big hit) and a 1964 remake with the Mort Garson
orchestra. The Les Brown version is the standard big band version, with
the band backing the vocal. The '64 remake is lushly over-orchestrated
with a tiny bit of bass clarinet here and there, but mostly strings and
piano.

Happy hunting with it,

Mike
