I had orthognathic surgery performed a couple of weeks ago, specifically a
"mandibular osteotomy" plus a "mandibular midline osteotomy." These are
ten-dollar words for a procedure that's pretty gruesome - my jaw was cut in
3 places, titanium plates screwed in and my lower jaw repositioned to put my
teeth in proper the position for successful chewing.

Recovery is going pretty OK. Only 2 weeks out, and I can eat carefully
chosen "normal" food. It'll be a while for steak, though.

Playing is not so good so far. My lower lip was quite numb at first, which
worried me greatly. Now, most of the feeling has come back. This is
normally a good thing, but when the "feeling" that's come back is searing
pain, a little numbness doesn't seem so bad.

I have a couple of weeks before my 1st rehearsal. I know Nancy Buckman has
been through this. (Thanks for your tips, Nancy!) Has anyone else had this
or something similar done? Hints to share?

kjf
