Maybe it's the warm humid climate, but I live in a warm humid climate also and never had a problem with the ringless barrels cracking

Living in a warm, humid climate, I've had quite a bit of trouble with the backun
ringless barrels. I went to put the instrument together one morning and noticed
a crack starting at the bottom edge of the barrel extending about a third of the
way up, it doesn't leak, but it did happen quite quickly without having to exert
much force on the barrel. Also, the barrel seemed to be extremely sensitive to
climate related expansion, much more so than my "conventional" barrels, which
makes a great deal of sense (at least to me). As to be expected, I never had
such issues in a stable, cool climate.
