Yes, it is not hard to shim it yourself with a strip of paper. Or I have
also seen a method where you put a piece of cheesecloth over the end of the
joint, tap the ring down over it and cut away all the excess. I think the
paper method is better, and you can control how much tightening by how long
a strip you use, and how thick the paper.
