I've been reading the many, many comments on moving clarinetists. My real
issue with over-done movement with wind players is the Doppler effect. I can
hear this moving train pitch shift on recordings of clarinetists especially,
and also with flutists and oboists. I have a dear friend, she who must not
be named, who did this kind of excessive motion for many years. She has
tamed it down considerably over time, thank Heavens. We played together in
the Young Musician's Orchestra many years ago, and I used to grab her knee
to make her stop.

Once I heard David Shifrin play the K. 622 locally. He really moved about
with the famed Shifrin Squat, until he let out a gigantic squeak. During the
rest of the concerto he stood perfectly still......
