Martin, that statement is merely a personal belief and I don't expect anyone else to agree with it any more than my disbelief in anything that can't be taken apart by science and the perpetuation of the soul after death.

As someone who suffers from regular bouts of suicidal depression, music is my solace, my joy, my therapy, my greatest love and I don't treat it seriously, just something to enjoy when dark clouds lour over my house.

With regards to movement, it is possible to unlearn it, I did, as I was savagely criticized in England for it. I recall a comment on my performance of the Weber Grand Duo that the "Hollywood glitz and glamour cheapened the performance" and though I was shortlisted for a concert series at the Purcell room, was again denied because of excess movement.

We wouldn't tolerate excessive movement from an opera singer or tuba player, why should we tolerate in woodwind instruments?

There are so many things in life to be serious about. Music shouldn't be one of them...

Regards, Kathy Williams-DeVries
