I had nothing to contribute to this thread until I saw a chamber music honors
recital at Kilbourn Hall last night. The first piece was a piano/clarinet/violin
trio by Milhaud (I don't remember the title; lost my program). Wai Ki Wun was
the clarinetist (I recognized him from another concert earlier in the semester;
he plays contrabass clarinet in the Eastman Wind Orchestra. He's also playing a
recital later this week and I saw it on the upcoming events, or I would have no
clue what his name was). This performance was my first experience with what I
perceived as excessive movement. And boy, there was lots of that from him. It
was distracting to the point that my attention went there in stead to what he
was playing. I didn't notice it when I saw him earlier in the semester, but it's
easier to move around standing with a soprano clarinet rather than seated with a
contrabass clarinet.
