"Cloud Cuckoo Land" comes from "The Birds" by the Greek comic
playwright Aristophanes.

unrealistic utopia where man hubristically seeks to replace the gods..

Back when students learned Greek, every educated person would know
about Cloud Cuckoo Land. Now it's a learned reference, which fits
perfectly with the subject -- that modern musicians do not and cannot
know about early performance.
