As a matter of fact, my music professor did indeed deprecate Bernstein's theatricality somewhat. He claimed the boys in the band hate that sort of stuff. I like it OK, though; it's fun and lends some drama to a performance. My own favorite conductor, however, was quite formal and spare in his conducting manner. Another conductor, Andre Previn, is quite minimal in his concert manner.

When I wrote convincing I meant that I belive that her movements are sincere, I
don't think that it's a show for the audiance. You can't fake musicality.
