Dear Mr. Moors,

Alas, I can't see the contents of the materials at David Smith
publications, but here are my thoughts:

I like Sleigh Ride (Leroy Anderson). Perhaps there is a version
arranged for clarinet or clarinet and piano. It kind of zips along
and with the "whip" cracks, I think the eccentricity (or at least the
effort required to go to the trouble to get something that sounds like
a cracking whip gives it a tastefully flashy quality). I think it is
also expressive of a somewhat driving feeling; like you want to travel
in a stately manner in a pleasantly briskly moving a car, carriage or
horse.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has a "flashy" sense to it with some
renditions of red glowing nose. It also has those large intervals
that seem kind of flashy (It is darn difficult to make those intervals
with out squeaking)! Jingle Bells is rather flashy. It's also got
that sort of "wanna move" sense to it.

I am looking for something less canonical, but my youtube searches are
coming up dry.

Jingle Bells

Another version (watch out if you don't like short tight skirts and
staged violence):

If you want to go over the top:

I think it even uses a clarinet choir.
