I also use musician's earplugs (Etymotic Research) with custom
earmolds. I purchased them for handbell rehearsals - I never had much
luck with them on clarinet. What is the purpose of the small hole?
Does it relieve the incessant buzzing that I get with my current
plugs?

It'd be fabulous if my current plugs could be modified to also be
effective with my clarinet!

Thanks for any info,

---Jason
