Dave, and especially those that don't know these things,

I sympathize with you. For years there were no wands available from anyone (see Koregelos below).

Ralph Morgan told me that when he started making his wands he compared them to the Erick Brand wands. He found the Erick Brand ones not to be accurate. Since then it has been observed that Morgan's are not all the same either.

For all mthpc makers, or those measuring mthpcs, You may have consistency for years as a maker, one mthpc to the next, but your numbers might not be what you think they are.

(Ralph felt that it was perfectly ok to bend a wand to work with certain types of mthpcs if the wand tip hit the ramp.)

If someone were to try to put a Kaspar facing on mthpcs with 2 different wands the facing schedule might not come out the same.

50 years ago George Koregelos made clarinet mthpcs under a different name! George used a dial gauge mounted under a machined stainless steel table with the tip up. Again, your results could be different than with the wand. The dial guage, if it has a proper tip, should be far more accurate. However, if you are trying to duplicate a written schedule, it may have been taken with an inaccurate wand or gauge, or been measured at a different point.

Of course, the schedule only gives a few variables. Ralph used to say there were 46 variables in a mthpc.

Actually, there are many dozen more in fine mthpc making.

Kurt
