Hello Jennifer

May I make a small request that will benefit everyone in the list?
Your posts to the list (often one-line comments) are sometimes
accompanied by hundreds of lines of quoted text (thousands of lines if
read on an iPhone).
Might you consider snipping the text at the bottom of your response if
that text is not relevant?
Aside from reducing the frustration of trawling through pages of
immaterial text, distilling the quoted material in a response makes a
post much more coherent.

Five lines was all we needed to understand your post. What followed
however was over 450 lines of quoted text (in my particular email
reader).

I have encouraged students and others to subscribe to this list. After
subscribing, not one person stayed subscribed. In each case they
claimed the layers of quoted text they had to plough through made it
too frustrating to stay subscribed. Perhaps Michele Zukovsky's recent
"unsubscription" was due to a similar frustration.
On days where you post a lot to the list, those of us in digest mode
have to wade through endless screens of irrelevant text, which could
have been cut from your response(s). This gets tedious when the post
is a one-line thought accompanied by hundreds of lines of extraneous
quoted text.

I don't mean to pick a fight, get on your bad side, nor hurt you.
Everyone wins if unwanted text is cut from responses. Signal-to-noise
ratio is drastically improved and posts are much more lucid and
comprehensible when only the relevant text is quoted.
