I prefer silver because it's a bit "stickier" on the fingers than nickel. Merely personal preference. As for sound, my guess is that you'll sound pretty sound like yourself no matter which you choose.

I wondered if there really is any significance other than cosemtics to have silver keys over nickel. I've heard arguments that since silver is heavier that makes the sound darker since there's more weight on the intrument. I find that hard to beleive but maybe it is true.

I ordered an A clarinet. WWBW had a used R13 with silver keys so I'm going to try it out.

I've always automatically stayed away from silver just because it costs more and I thought there really was no difference.
