Martin Baxter asks whether one could have perfect pitch in Vienna,
where the Philharmonic tunes to A-446
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,903087,00.html, or,
at lest notionally, to A-443
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_Philharmonic.
I think the answer is that it's possible. Michel Piguet, who played
baroque oboe at 415, classical oboe at 430 and modern oboe at 440, had
a very acute sense of perfect pitch. He said that when he switched
instruments, it took him a few hours to adjust. He also adjusted to
various mean-tone tuning systems.
