Go for it. You only live once. But buy something decent, just in case you
want to sell it. I play a rosewood Patricola (rosewood requires scrupulous
care, as it will move a lot for the first year or so). The Buffet E-11 is
nice, and the Amati isn't too bad...just check the intonation before you
commit. And my "personal" opinion is that a better barrel and bell (not
necessarily made of the wood that the clarinet is made from, either) can
significantly improve the pitch and sound quality of ANY clarinet, but
especially a C clarinet. If you find a clarinet you like and have minor
pitch issues, ask Walter Grabner for a C mouthpiece. It does make a bit of
a difference for some people.
