Klarinet Archive - Posting 000067.txt from 2010/11

I had the opportunity to sight read an A clarinet part this afternoon and
discovered some very obvious discrepancies with (at least) articulations
based upon having heard it recorded so many times (e.g., the third note of
the first and subsequent appearances of the signature "cat" melody are all
written as staccato, rather than tenuto, accented or just unmodified). This
part was handwritten although the accompanying Bb part was a type set
printing and was clearly published by Kalmus (with the same staccato
markings). The latter also included a low D# to be played on a Bb
instrument! Both parts had been photocopied, so I'm guessing that the A part
was also a Kalmus publication, although that didn't make it through the
copying process. A review of prior posts on this subject (esp. in July 2008)
suggests that the A part may contain additional errors.

So, here's my question: Can anyone point me to a more accurate transcription
of the A clarinet part that they would recommend?

Thanks,

Ken Metz
