Dear List,

I am 52 years old and I live in Rodgers Forge in Towson, MD and I am very
close to Towson University.

I am wondering if anyone in this area might be interested in giving me
lessons.

Sadly, I am so out of playing that I need to start from the very beginning.

I have Klose, and the Boosey and Hawkes "The Clarinet, A Comprehensive
Method, as well as the three volume Woodwind Method. I also have Bettoney
and Baermann, but only Parts 4 and 5, I need to order Parts 1 & 2, and 3.

I am a reasonably serious student and a somewhat fast learner, even at my
age.

I should tell you though I am NOT a big fan of the Rubank Methods though,
they seem terribly pedantic. Of course I just might be a snob.

My last instructor was Carl Grubbs and jazz clarinetist and Alto sax
musician.

Sadly for the past two years I have been living in an apartment complex that
does not allow musical instruments of any type, however, people can and
often did blast their stereos and they were considerably louder than
anything a clarinet or piano could produce, but mine is not to question,
only to obey.

I can pay an instructor as much as $120.00 for an hour's lesson, and I
prefer an hour primarily due to the fact that it takes more than a half-hour
session to really learn the method, also an hour allows time to cover theory
and technique.

I sing in a church choir that relies heavily on the ability of the singer to
sight read, therefore, I am fairly confident that I can read music and find
the proper key on the instrument.

I hope someone will consider teaching me, or at least suggesting someone who
would.
