What a load of rubbish. Contemporary music is often not liked simply
because it *hasn't* withstood the test of time.

Look at how much Mozart gets zero play time these days.=A0 When was the
last time an orchestra scheduled a performance of Mozart's - I don't
know, any numbered symphony below 20.=A0=A0 Or anything by Haydn below
#98. Hardly ever?=A0 You think an orchestra would have a sell-out
performance with works by Telemann, early Hadyn symphonies and other
lesser known early Classical composers?=A0 I doubt it. That stuff is
boring as shit!=A0 There's a reason they play all that stuff on the
Classical radio stations at 10 pm - people want to go to sleep, so
they know the music on at that time will do the trick.

We listen to new music specifically because we're looking for the
diamonds in the rough. Rite of Spring was a new piece along with many
other new pieces. Some of them last, and get played again and again.
Some of them, never again.=A0 But as a fan of classical music, I'm
always appreciative of a concert that includes new music, because it
might mean I get to experience something truly wonderful and exciting.
Yes, it might also mean I listen to some crap, but that's a risk I'm
willing to take.
