Back in the 60's, my band director told me about "A-Stringers". He said "the
old guys" would use it to play A parts with a Bb. It was as Tony said a shoe
string hung down the bore.
A few years ago a friend of mine used a metal rod made by Conn to do the
same thing. It was two rods about 1/8" diameter that nested together to
make a rod about a foot long, the pieces were held together by a piece of
bowed spring wire that would push the rod up against the wall of the bore.
The rod rested right under the tone holes.

You can lower the pitch some by putting a wood or plastic rod in the bore.
This reduces the effective bore diameter. Maybe try an eighth-inch dowel (or

3 or 4 mm) as a wild guess for a starting point. People have tried to turn a

Bb clarinet into an A clarinet this way, with not very good results, but
maybe it would work well for just 5 Hz. It'll take some experimenting. You
could, for example, tie or glue some sewing thread to a rod and run the
thread out between the barrel and mouthpiece to hold it in place. Some
people have used string instead of a rod, but I think a rigid material is
better (and also disproves the claims that a string works by slowing the
speed of sound within the string).

Hello Everyone

With regards to playing at 435, I play and record with a church pipe organ
that is also at 435. It is near impossible to play in tune with it, even
when I pull out past the cork. Any suggestions?

Kind regards
