Fair enough!

It still seems a kind of incomplete story -- the 'inauthenticity' is the wrong way round, don't you think? For it to be plausible, I'd have to have a different idea of the relationship between the Eb and the Ab clarinet as judged by a performer of (the? a later?) time. That might be an interesting change of viewpoint (to be contrasted with the issue itself, because frankly, I don't reeeallly give a damn WHAT you play a Verdi banda part on.)

By the way, I feel a little bit 'set up' in this exchange; you wrote your initial post the way you did deliberately in order to provoke a reaction, no?-)
