Jennifer,

I owned three basset horns, two Selmer and one Fox (of Canada). I sold the
two Selmers to a local player. One of them was owned by Mazzeo who sold it
to me after he retired. Both looked effectively identical and resembled
alto clarinets. Both had metal bells.

The Fox was made for me using cocobolo wood and a wooden bell. It was a
straight up and down instrument except for the bocal which was wood and
angled. I sold it to Keith Bowen because he also had a Fox bassert horn in
cocobolo wood and bother his and mine came from the same block of wood. Both
instruments had gold plated keys, though my instrument was double gold
plated. He and I did the gran Partitta on those instruments plus a variety
of Mozart's basset horn chamber music including the six notturni voice
voices and a mix of clarinets and basset horns.
