Subj: [kl] Finale version 3.7 lives!

Ah, what an exercise in frustration, but my determination prevailed.

The problem with Finale versions 3.7 and 97 (and probably some others) were that they required the added execution of Adobe Type Manager which, it turns out, inserted the Anastasia and Petrucci fonts at the right places.

I had forgotten just where those "right" places were so there was a lot of fiddling around once I started my new screaming Dell Windows 7 machine.

It turns out that the operating system has to be "professional" not "premium" to be able to download the XP simulator (version 3.7 cannot be installed on a Windows 7 machine, presumably because of the 64-bit architecture). Add to that the fact that the XP simulator creates some simulated fixed disks (C: for example) and what's going on is still something of a mystery to me.

Anyway, it wasn't until I realized that the place to put the Anastasia and Petrucci fonts was at C:windowsfonts instead of in the fonts folder of Finale37. Everything looks fine as regards &C at the beginning of the staff though the C looks a little small. I haven't actually done anything yet and saved it, but the notation appears to be okay.

If it works out, this computer and version 3.7 will become a part of my estate because I plan to keep this machine for as long as I had my XP machine and by then I'll be in my 80s.

What might I be able to get for it on e-bay, huh? As much as I could get for a 1943 zinc penny??

Oliver
