There are obviously going to be situations where the composer's original manuscript is missing but a copy, prepared for printing and annotated by the composer or under his direct supervision exists (I am thinking particularly of Handel and Delius in this context). Would an edition from such a source be considered as "Urtext"? I don't think so but is this splitting hairs - some ( quite reputable) publishers obviously don't agree. We really need a word for such non-urtext but nevertheless scholarly editions.

So, what do you call the non urtext versions that catch on? Kenny G?
(Please correct me if I have constructed a bad metaphor)
